Ashwagandha – Indian Ginseng
Ashwagandha, also known as Indian ginseng, is one of the most important herbs in Ayurvedic medicine in India, where it has been used for more than 4,000 years. It is an herb that is attributed to many positive health effects. Ashwagandha is best known for its helping properties in case of fatigue and physical exhaustion, as well as for maintaining focus and endurance as it can help maintain the body's resistance to stress. It is said to have a strengthening and balancing effect and can help keep levels of the stress hormone cortisol down.
Adaptogen
Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, just like rosehip or ginseng – but it differs significantly from other adaptogens in that it does not activate or stimulate specific functions or organs. Instead, Ashwagandha works long-term with the body's stress system, the so-called HPA axis.
Ashwagandha, “an Intelligent Herb”
In Ayurveda, Ashwagandha is known as “the intelligent herb”, because Ashwagandha helps where it is needed most. For example, if you sleep poorly, it is primarily your sleep that improves. In connection with the increased interest in Ashwagandha, studies have also increased. Studies show that Ashwagandha increases resistance to stress, which in turn contributes to, among other things:
- More calm
- Better sleep
- Emotional balance
- Recovery and stamina
- Increased muscle strength
- Focus and memory
